Verónica Cervantes Wefers

Somatic Psychotherapist

Hello...

Welcome! I'm glad you are here and taking the time to read about me and my practice. This tells me you are ready to take a step towards change, which can be overwhelming and scary. Perhaps you're down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Often, the most beneficial choice one can make is to seek help and put things into perspective.

Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery. There is no right or wrong way with therapy - it is available for you to tap into your curiosity, practice, and build skills so you can begin to thrive. It's an opportunity for self-healing as well as learning to love yourself. As your therapist, your well-being and mental strength are my number one priority. In sessions, I will help you cut through surface layers to cultivate and act upon what matters most to you in life. I'm happy to guide you through all of life's challenges with the attention and care you deserve. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support.

About Me

As a therapist, my clients have described me as intuitive, grounded, straight-talking, quirky, and kind. I would add: introspective, insatiably curious, nerdy, and a deep listener. I enjoy working with and assisting people to realize their full potential.

My interest in somatics and psychology grew from my journey of self-exploration and healing in my own therapy, as well as through my experience working with youths as a teacher. My empathic disposition to relate and connect with others, my appetite to deepen my somatic practice, and learn more about human nature influenced my decision to return to school to receive my Master's degree in Somatic Psychology. My goal is to expand my therapeutic practice and personal growth through continuing education. ¡Adelante!

How I Work

I am a relational somatic therapist, which means that being real matters and the relationship that develops between us is important. Part of the process of therapy is building trust and cultivating an alliance. The work I will assist you with involves a sincere effort to go inside yourself to uncover what you're experiencing, and then communicate that. We can discuss your difficulties and identify how you can influence them. When you're sharing a difficult experience, I will encourage you to describe any sensations you are having presently. I will teach you simple somatic-emotional exercises to help us both understand your way of handling your experience. We will work together to develop the solution that you're seeking for a more satisfying life.

My approach is rooted in the notion that we have access to nurturing our emotional empowerment by attuning to our bodily experience from within (somatic awareness) to our emotional thought process. I offer interventions and strategies skills to help you trust and honor your 'wise-self'. I will also provide psycho-education to give you information and an understanding of your unique somatic responses.

In facilitating your process, I will draw from:

  • Relational & Attachment-based Therapy
  • Somatic Psychology
  • Psychodynamic
  • Somatic Experiencing (SE)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Who I Work With

Meet Jack Santos

Jack Santos became part of my family in 2018. He is a mixed terrier-chihuahua and was adopted through the Milo Foundation. He loves to the beach, travel, cuddle, and accompany me to work.

Jack Santos is a sweet, intelligent dog. He attunes to feelings fairly quickly. The best way to win his trust is to "ignore him"  so he can determine whether he is safe and if he likes the person or not. He does not like when people approach him by putting their hands or fingers in front of his face. Once trust is established the next step to win his heart by giving him treats!

*Please note: If you have severe pet allergies most likely my office will not suit you.
